Film Blog

I've been really busy working on my thesis film, Chroma.
99% of my attention is going towards it & I've been pulling 10hr days in my studio to get things rolling.

Please check out & follow my film blog to see progress and new work- since I'm trying to keep it all contained over there

Let's Do Business

I needed some business cards for an event this week. But I kind of remembered last minute and don't have the funding or the time to get them printed. Instead, I made some handmade ones with cardboard, markers, and packing tape. They'll do.

Drive-By Doodles 3

Just some warm up sketches that I decided to finish. As well as some scribbles from this week's life drawing.

Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Sweeney Todd has always been one of my favourite musicals.
We won't speak of the film version. No. That just didn't happen.

Another warm up doodle that I decided to finish.

Murder Most Foul

Just some quick doodles of my three favourite Shakespearean plays: Othello, Macbeth & Hamlet

Oingo Boingo

One of my warm up doodles today.
Danny Elfman, the lead singer of the band no one ever heard of, Oingo Boingo.

When I was a kid I loved Oingo Boingo beyond all reason.
I only seriously got back into drawing because I liked to draw Danny. Whoops.

Chroma: The Chroma Monster

I'm having difficulty coming up with the design for the monster within my film. I want something scary and lanky that is almost like a shadow. Since it will be animated traditionally (not stop motion, like the rest of the film), the design cant be overly complicated.

This is the design as I have it right now. It'll probably change a dozen more times.

Jack & Sally

The Nightmare Before Christmas was one of my favourite films as a kid. The first time I saw it, it scared the crap out of me and I had to turn it off before 'This Is Halloween', the opening song, finished.

There's something beautiful about stop motion, it's absolutely terrifying and yet so alluring. S'probably why it's become such a huge bit of my life over the last few years.

Sketched this about a year ago and never finished it until today.

First Day Back: Scribbles

Haven't posted any scribbly-sketchy-not-finishy stuff here lately.

Just some scribbles from my first day back of 4th year. So rusty at life drawing after not doing it for four months- these are all under a minute because I can't pay attention for longer. Crayola markers are my new life drawing best friends; I cant be arsed to spend money on markers anymore since puppet supplies are so expensive. So I have 60 Crayolas that cost me around 5$.

Doodles are done in my Psychology elective because I can't keep up with the note-keeping.

Chroma: Charlie Design

I was waiting to hear back if stop motion was a go before I posted any more Chroma stuff here. It is, so here is some design of my main character, Charlie.

Specs:
• 12'' tall
• Ball & Socket Armature
• Cast plastic head
• Hands cast in silicone, painted details.
• Faux-fur wig

So Chroma is 'officially' in production. So excited.

Beach Girl

It's still stupid hot here.
Inspired by someone & their fashion.

Lines in Flash, everything else is Photoshop.

Gratuitous Picture Of Yourself

This is what I look like. I haven't looked in a mirror in a few years, so you're just going to have to trust me on this one.

By The Pricking Of My Thumbs..

Something wicked this way comes...

I'm working on a pitch package for my stop motion thesis film: CHROMA. Expect a post next week with concept work, but here's a sneak peak.

I also re-did my website a little while back, so check it out!

There's also a new tab underneath my blogger profile. This is a link to all the posts that are tagged with work from my thesis film. :)

Cute Little Roadkill

Every day there's a dozen of these guys on the side of the road outside my village. That's an awfully stupid place to sleep, Mr. Racoon.

Woke Up In 1973

Designing props because they're fun.
Potentially for a film I pitched last week.

All are based off of my nan's old farmhouse (where I grew up). For the longest time, the house seemed to be stuck in the 70s.

Just doodling some monsters & creatures for fun.

Heroes & Villains take 2. Well, not quite.

Another life drawing assignment- but this time we took drawings of costumed models from class and tried to bring out their character, acting and personality.

Puppets

Over the last few months, making puppets has become a bit of an obsession of mine.
Here are the three I've completed.

All are aluminium block armatures (with lots of help from my dad with the fancy aluminium bits)
The clothes were made from recycled fabric & old clothes (charity shops, etc).
Aged & dyed fabric accordingly- as well as lined garments.
Patterns were drafted by myself.
Knitting was done on a miniature scale.

I've never enjoyed something so much & I want to do this for the rest of my life.

Next step is to learn how to cast & make silicone puppets.
